Grades and Programs

Honors Program

The Honors Program is the highest academic challenge available in Kent and Sussex Counties. The purpose of the program is to provide the highest level of academic preparation for admission to and success at highly selective four-year colleges and universities. Designed around the honors courses, the student is required to complete all honors courses in at least one strand of the program. Honors courses are weighted for the purposes of the grade point average. Students will follow a required sequence of courses in either the Humanities Strand and/or the Mathematics and Sciences Strand. Honors Program students will be given preference in scheduling these courses.

Milford High School Pathways

The following MHS pathways are described below. Remember that students must select their pathway during their freshman year.

Arts and Sciences Pathway

Students who select the Arts and Sciences Pathway are required to take an academically rigorous selection of required and elective courses including four credits of mathematics, foreign language, and science. The four credits in foreign language may be altered during the senior year by electing one of several options (see your counselor). Students in this pathway will have the opportunity to select electives from other pathways. It should be noted that college preparation could be attained in any pathway; however, the Arts and Sciences requires the highest degree of college preparatory challenge.

Business Technology Pathway

This pathway prepares students for further education and a career in the business world. Skill preparation emphasizes computer software as applied to various business functions including accounting, record keeping, communications, and marketing. There are three strands within this pathway: Business Technology, Marketing Technology, and Accounting Technology.

Technology Education Pathway

The Technology Education Pathway has five strands within its program: Agricultural Science/Natural Resources, Agricultural Science/Animal Science, Visual Communications, Mechanical Trades, and Modern Technology. Students are required to take a survey course in each area and to specialize in one of the strands. This pathway focuses on the skills needed to function in the modern technologies including satellite communications, graphics processes, aerospace technology, manufacturing, wildlife management, and several other areas.

Visual and Performing Arts Pathway

Students are introduced to the elements of the visual and performing arts through the two strands within this pathway: Visual Arts focuses on teaching skills to create art for aesthetic and commercial purposes, and Performing Arts teaches students dramatic and musical performance skills.
